SEAMSTRESS is a new performance work premiering at the 2008 Melbourne Fringe Festival - in which five local dance artists present a solo piece. Utilising the theme of one's relationship with costume, the performers are aptly housed in the intimate and warm space that is Thread Den - North Melbourne’s new boutique sewing lounge.
Jessica Devereux, Alice Dixon, Melissa Jones, Caroline Meaden and Susan van den Ham have each taken on the role of dancer/choreographer. Their solos explore the associations and emotions attached to costume, the feeling of being decorated, measured and designed. Stories and memories are revealed in movement. While each piece is self contained, the communal fascination with costume provides a link.
This is the first time these individuals have come together as a collective to present their work, resulting in a diverse and exciting evening of contemporary dance.
